EcoArt Project in Kuwait
March 2018
The Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Centre - Kuwait City, Kuwait

Artists: Gianni Moretti & Cesare Galluzzo

EcoArt Project in Kuwait was conceived as a part of the Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Centre’s (ASCC’s) Artist in Residence program. For two weeks, EcoArt Project and the ASCC invited two artists (Moretti and Galluzzo) from Milan, Italy to live in Kuwait City as artists-in-residence, exhibit their work in the ASCC’s Fine Arts Centre, and hold hands-on art-making workshops open to the public. The residency and community workshops celebrated the opening of the Fine Arts Centre by warmly inviting locals into the space for the first time.

The ASCC Artist in Residence program provides artists with time and space to develop work and creatively explore new ideas. Artists are mentored by curators and other art professionals, nurturing experimentation and new ideas, research, and the development of new work. At the same time that artists grow from professional development and networking opportunities within their host community and from visiting artists, they also facilitate meaningful cultural exchange by assisting community engagement with ASCC education, public, and artist development programs.

The program supports artists in initial and mid-career stages and invites both Kuwaiti and international artists to the beautiful Centre with the goal of promoting the (local) contemporary art scene and connecting the local and global art worlds. The artists participating in residency programs build bridges between countries and cultures, contributing to cultural diversity, mutual understanding, and artistic exchange.
