RED FEATHER
My art is a celebration of the beauty inherent in nature, and explores the contradictions of its simplicity and complexity; its qualities of permanency and the ephemeral. Using light and fragile materials such as tulle, beads, cotton and paper, I engage in a labor-intensive, repetitive process of cutting, sewing, knotting and assembling in the creation of human-scale environments. With an accretion of time and materials, an imagined world mimicking nature emerges.
My intent for this project is to create an alternative space that allows the viewer to enter and to think deeply at the whole concept of forest.
As we know forests are essential to the eco-system’s balance.
Forests are not only a huge source of oxygen but they also represent the “house” of millions of different species of animals. Destroying forests means destroying animals too.
The intention of my installation is to underline this important point of view.
I want to present a space where the presence is the absence, a space where there are no trees, no animals, the only presence of life is perceive through the red feathers left on the “room’s floor”.
I chose red feathers as a symbol for all the animals disappearing with the disappearing of the forests. A feather dropped by a bird tell us about its passage, about its past presence. The idea is to make the public feel “the reality of nature” as “left forever”.
I am inspired by the intricate artistry and magic of nature’s ever-changing presence in our lives. To revel in its beauty, and simultaneously to reflect on the quality of our connection with its essence, is at the core of my investigation.
